The Flin Flon Bombers have landed 2004 born Defenceman Liam Hunks from the Notre Dame Hounds in a Thursday night blockbuster.
The move sees Hunks head north to join the Bombers, while the Hounds pick up 2006 born Forward Evin Bossel, 2006 born Defenceman Wylie Smith, the SJHL list rights to 2007 born Forward Brennan Brown and a Player Development Fee.
Hunks was the captain this past season for the Hounds and is currently tied for 2nd in SJHL Defencemen scoring with 25 points in 31 games. Liam’s 8 goals leads all SJHL blueliners. In 111 career SJHL games, Hunks has produced 21 goals and 44 assists for 65 points. Prior to joining the Hounds, Hunks suited up for the BCHL’s Surrey Eagles and Prince George Spruce Kings.
“We are extremely excited about adding one of the SJHL’s premier defencemen. Liam is a player we have had our eye on for awhile and he checks off a lot of boxes that we value. Liam makes our team deeper and tougher to match up against.” – Bombers Head Coach & GM, Mike Reagan
Evin Bossel and Wylie Smith were blue-chip prospects that had signed with the Bombers this past summer. Bossel put up 4 goals and an assist in 21 games meanwhile Smith chipped in with an assist in 13 games with the maroon and white. Bossel’s 4 goals ranked 2nd among all rookies for the Bombers.
Brennan Brown was drafted by the Bombers in the 5th round of the 2023 SJHL Draft and is also a prospect of the WHL’s Swift Current Broncos. Brown is currently the captain of the Moose Jaw Warriors of the SMAAAHL and is having a breakout season putting up 31 points in 23 games.
The Bombers want to thank both Evin and Wylie for their contributions to the organization, and wish them all the best in Notre Dame.
The 2025 SJHL Trade Deadline is Friday, January 10th at 5:00 PM CST.
