The Flin Flon Bombers are thrilled to announce that graduating goaltender Matthew Kieper has committed to the University of Manitoba (U-Sports).
Kieper will play for his hometown university team after having a decorated final season of junior hockey. Matthew was acquired from the AJHL’s Canmore Eagles at the end of October and played a critical role in helping the team jump from 10th place all the way up to 2nd place. In 27 games, Kieper posted a 23-2-1-1 record and did not lose his first game in regulation until February 28th. Matthew had a league best 1.80 GAA & .935 SV%. For his efforts, Matthew was awarded the SJHL MVP and Goaltender of the Year awards and was also selected for the annual SJHL & MJHL Showcase. At the end of the season he was also awarded the Bombers MVP award as well.
Matthew had almost identical numbers during the Bombers post-season run, putting up a 1.89 GAA & .935 SV%. Prior to playing in the CJHL, Matthew played three seasons in the WHL with the Regina Pats, Kamloops Blazers and Swift Current Broncos.
The Manitoba Bisons compete in the Canada West Universities Athletic Association Conference and finished the 2024-2025 season with a 8-20-0 record. Former Bombers Captain Lucas Fry is currently a member of the Bisons hockey program.
