Bombers Advance to the Canterra Seeds Cup – Semi-Finals Recap vs. the Battlefords North Stars

For the third year in a row, the Flin Flin Bombers advance to the SJHL Finals after beating the Battlefords North Stars 4-0 in a 7 game series.

The series started with Games 1 and 2 at the Whitney Forum with the Flin Flon Bombers having home ice advantage. In these games, the Bombers had total control over the North Stars beating them in Game 1, 4-3 and in Game 2, 6-2. For Game 1, it was the Bombers defense that really showed up, only allowing 23 shots on net and did a great job of shutting down the North Stars top players, along with that, Justin Lies also had 2 big goals that tied and won the game. In game 2 , the difference maker for the Bombers had to be there depth scoring. The Bombers saw goals from 6 different players in Game 2 and had 47 shots on goal, along with 14 different point getters. In between the pipes for the Bombers for the first two games was Harmon Laser-Hume and he continued his hot streak, only allowing 5 goals on 57 shots. The Bombers specialty teams went 3/8 on the power play and stopped the North Stars 3/5 times on the penalty kill.

The Bombers then made their way to North Battledford for Games 3 and 4 at Access Communications Centre. The North Stars were definitely hoping that the packed arena with the home town fans were going to give them the boost they needed, but the Bombers high powered offense, strong back end and elite goaltending came to play. The Bombers won Game 3, 5-2 and Game 4, 5-1. Yet again, it was the Bombers depth that really helped them out in these games, getting goals and points from many different players and lines. Justin Lies was also a huge contributor on the offensive as well grabbing 4 goals in the final 2 games. Harmon Laser-Hume continued with the unbelievable play stopping 62/65 shots through the final two games and overall in the series stopping 114/122 shots. The Bombers on the specialty teams went 2/8 on the power play and stopped Battlefords 6/9 times on the penalty kill.

Overall, it was another good series for the Bombers as they were able get the sweep and gain more momentum and confidence going into the next round. The Bombers now move on to the Canterra Seeds Cup, where they will either faceoff against the Melfort Mustangs or the Humboldt Broncos.
