On a quite CJHL Trade Deadline day, the Flin Flon Bombers made one trade and acquired another player in two separate move.
On a day that saw 12 total moves in the SJHL, the Bombers traded their biggest asset in 1997 born scoring leader Nick Shumlanski (Tisdale, SK) to the Humboldt Broncos for future considerations.
"At the end of the day, we needed a great return on a player with Nick's skill level." said Head Coach and General Manager Mike Reagan. "We felt this was the best deal for us."
Shumlanski leads the team with 39 points (12g, 27a) in 35 games. In three seasons with the team he had 123 points (40g, 83a) in 155 games.
Returns on what the team will get in return for Shumlanski was not detailed, but it will help the team next season and beyond commented Reagan.
The Bombers also picked up 1998 forward Brandson Hein (Winnipeg, MB) who was released from the Everett Silvertips of the WHL earlier in the day.
Hein signed with the Bombers back in 2016 after the Winnipeg product put up 48 points (23g, 25a) in 33 games with the Winnipeg Thrashers.
Hein played the last two season with the Silvertips and totaled 12 points (8g, 4a) in 78 games.
"Hein was a player we recruited back in 2016 along with Nate Hooper," said Reagan. "To have a player of this quality come to us without making a deal is big at the deadline day."
Hein was teammates on the Thrashers with current Bombers Hooper, Dawson McKenzie, Mason Martin and Dylan Burton.
"We had a lot of irons in the fire today," commented Reagan on the deadline day as a whole. "We had the chance at another WHLer being assigned to us, we were in on a couple deals that would have shored up a couple spots for the future. But we couldn't get these deals done, but we also feel were are set for this season and beyond."
