Bombers Pick Up Pair Of Wins On Weekend

The Flin Flon Bombers played host to the Melville Millionaires in a pair of weekend games and after dropping two shootout losses at the SJHL Showcase the weekend before, the Bombers got back in the W column taking two from the Mills.

After spotting the Millionaires two goals in the first period on Friday, Flin Flon would score five unanswered over two periods, including a four goal outburst in the third, taking the game 5-2.

Five different goal scorers hit the sheet, with Caleb Moretz (Fairbanks, AK) got the lone goal in the second period with his second of the season before Daylan Marchi (Lethbridge, AB) and rookie Dawson McKenzie (Winnipeg, MB) each scored their first of the season to start the third.

Reigning SJHL Rookie of the Month Chrystopher Collin (Bois De FIllion, QC) would score his seventh of the season before Ethan Daniels (Fairbanks, AK) rounded out the scoring with his second.

Saturday night continued for the home side as the Bombers scored seven goals on the Mills and goalie Brenden Newton made 23 saves for his first shutout of the season, helping the club to a 7-0 win.

Nate Hooper (Winnipeg, MB), Collin, Ben Lanfermann (Paradise Hill, SK), Mason Martin (Winnipeg, MB), Caleb Moretz (Fairbanks, AK), Tyler Nyman (Circle Pines, MN) and Nick Shumlanski (Tisdale, SK) all found the net for the Bombers, who with the two wins improve their record to 4-1-0-2.

The Bombers will now shift their focus to a pair of home games this weekend when they play host to the Kindersley Klippers before they hit the road for a four game in five night road swing, starting Wednesday in Humboldt.

ICE CHIPS:  The Bombers were 0 for 3 on Friday and 2 for 7 on Saturday with the Mills going 0 for 3 on Friday and 0 for 7 on Saturday.  ---  A couple of Bombers had career games on Saturday.  Ben Lanfermann had four points (1g, 3a) and Daylan Marchi had three assists.  ---  After recording his eighth of the season on Saturday, forward Chrystopher Collin picked up his first assist on defenseman Mason Martin’s first career junior goal.
