Down 3-1 in the SJHL Semi Finals, Head Coach and General Manager Mike Reagan wasn’t concerned.
The Flin Flon native knew his team had a big undertaking when the Hawks won 4-1 in Game 4 of the series at home, but he knew his club was one that was prepared to take on the task.
“We knew we were behind the eight ball,” said Reagan. “But we build this team with the right pieces to be ready for a challenge.”
The Bombers then rattled off three straight wins capped off with a 3-0 win at home in Game 7 on Tuesday night in front of 1,352 fans at the Whitney Forum, something he can say helped out with the comeback.
“When we were sent off by 100 fans last Saturday on our way to Nipawin, I knew the guys didn’t want to disappoint.”
They will now look to the SJHL’s top team in the Battlefords North Stars when the series opens up Friday in North Battleford (Game Time: 8:30 PM – Radio: 102.9 CFAR).
The Stars have been off since April 4th when they swept the Estevan Bruins in the other SJHL Semi Final series, and have only had to play eight totals games, outscoring their opponents 47-18 in the process.
The season series had the Stars hold a 3-1 edge with both teams winning in each other’s building, and another being decided in a shootout, a 4-3 win at the Whitney Forum back in October.
These two clubs haven’t seen each other since December, when Battleford edged the Bombers 3-2.
Game 2 will go the next night on Saturday before the series shifts it’s focus to Flin Flon for Games 3 and 4 at the Forum Tuesday and Wednesday.
