Flin Flon takes Game 1, Melfort matches and takes Game 2 in the Canalta Cup Finals.

A pair of high scoring games was what the fans got when the Flin Flon Bombers and Melfort Mustangs clashed in the first two games of the Canalta Cup finals.

On Friday, the Bombers first SJHL Championship Final in 23 years saw Joel Kocur (Edson, AB) score a hat trick and add an assist as the Bombers took Game 1, 6-3.

Adam Wilson (Edmonton, AB) scored his third of the post season 6:27 into Game 1 to open the scoring, the only goal of the opening fram.

Flin Flon took a bid advantage in the second period, scoring four of their six and outshooting the Mustangs 18-10.  Overall the Bombers outshot the Mustangs 48-36.

Tyson Empey (Swift Current, SK) started the onslaught midway through the period as the Bombers scored four in an eight minute span with Kocur scoring two of this three and Joseph Leonidas (Calgary, AB) adding his first of the post season.

Kocur would score his third making the score 6-0 just 1:14 into the third period, chasing Melfort starter Evan Plotnik.

That’s all the visiting team would score as Melfort got a little life at the half way point of the third scoring three goals before the end of the period.

Game 2 was a little different story as the Mustangs scored four goals in the first period and never looked back, evening the series 1-1, with a 7-4 win.

Joel Kocur added another two goals for five in the Canalta Cup finals and six overall in the playoffs.  Brandon Switzer (Brandon, MB) and Empey rounded out the scoring for the Bombers.

Zac Robidoux (Winnipeg, MB) was chased from the Bomber net after allowing three goals on eight shots.

Melfort would add one in the second period and two more in the third including an empty netter to take the game.

Game 3 goes Tuesday night at the Whitney Forum with Game 4 going Wednesday.

ICE CHIPS:  Flin Flon was 3 for 5 on the power Friday night and 1 for 4 on Saturday with the Mustangs going 1 for 4 both nights.
