After dropping Game 3 on Tuesday night, the Bombers take a 3-1 series lead last night with a 5-2 win against the Battlefords North Stars.

Curtis Roach (Saskatoon, SK) opened the scoring just 1:04 into the first period, his first of two on the night, and Zac Robidoux (Winnipeg, MB) made 37 saves for his first win of the playoffs, helping the Bombers to a 5-2 win and a 3-1 series lead over the Battlefords North Stars.

Roach’s unassisted second goal of the post season started a three goal first period that was dominated by the home side as they outshot the North Stars 24-5 in the first and 46-39 overall.

Rylee Zimmer (Russell, MB) scored his first of the playoffs midway through the period, from Jason Lavalle (Thetford Mines, QC) and Alex Smith (Edmonton, AB) rounded out the scoring from Joel Kocur (Edson, AB), both goals coming on the power play.

Robidoux wasn’t tested much in the first but had to come up big on two quality chances and continued that play throughout the game.  In his first start since being pulled in Game 1 against the Weyburn Red Wings, Robidoux made 20 saves in the second and 13 more in the third.  He was beat one in the second on the power play when Stars forward Layne Young picked up a pass in the slot and fired one blocker high.  He was beat once more on a bullet from Igor Leonenko.

Roach opened the second with the goal, 2:40 in on the power play from Smith and Greyson Reitmeier (Nakusp, BC) would finally hit the score sheet with his first of the post season, a shorthanded marker from Smith at the 8:27 mark of the period.

Flin Flon will now look to finish up the series on Saturday night in North Battleford.
