Alex Smith scores the lone goal on Saturday night to even the series up 1-1.

The Flin Flon Bombers knew going into their quarter final matchup against the Weyburn Red Wings that it would be tough to score goals against the league’s top defense.  And after two games, they were only able to score twice but were still able to come home with a 1-1 series tie going into their first home game on Tuesday night.

Friday night had the home town Red Wings score three times in the second period and cruising to a 4-1 win.

Pierre Luc-Morin (Ste-Hélène-de-Kamourask, QC) got the only Bomber goal, a shot from the point that beat a screened Jack Burgart late in the second period.

On Saturday night after a disallowed goal in the second period, Alex Smith (Edmonton, AB) would score the lone goal of the game taking a Joel Kocur (Edson, AB) cross ice pass, redirecting it for the winner.  Line mate Brandon Switzer (Brandon, MB) picked up the other assist.

Goalie Brenden Newton (Medicine Hat, AB) stopped all 30 shots he faced for his first career playoff shutout.  Newton has stopped 53 of 54 shots he has faced in the series since coming in as relief for Zac Robidoux (Winnipeg, MB) in game 1.

The two teams will face off in Game 3 on Tuesday and Game 4 on Wednesday at the Whitney Forum.
