It all comes down to one game, the last game of the regular season to see where the Flin Flon Bombers will start the playoffs.
The Bombers took on the La Ronge Ice Wolves in a home and home series this past weekend and after sweeping their Sherwood Division rivals, the playoff picture was still muddy after the Estevan Bruins also took two of two to keep one point back of the Bombers for 5th in the SJHL.
Flin Flon scored four goals in the first, one more in the second and two in the third to win game one on Friday 7-3.
Jason Lavallee (Thetford-Mines, QC) scored a pair of goals and added an assist while Kristian St. Onge (Saskatoon, SK), Brandon Switzer (Brandon, MB), Joel Kocur (Edson, AB), Mitch Foyle (Fruitvale, BC), and Mason Etter (Cedarburg, WI) rounded out the scoring.
Kocur lead the way with four points (1g, 3a) on the night while starting goalie Brenden Newton (Medicine Hat, AB) made 33 saves for his 14th win of the season.
Flin Flon outshot the Ice Wolves 48-36 in the game with each team going 1 for 5 on the power play.
Saturday night was a different story.
Lavallee would score his third goal in two games 4:14 into overtime as the Bombers edged the Wolves 2-1.
Greyson Reitmeier scored the other Bombers goals, shoveling a goal mouth scramble with four seconds left in the second period for the 1-0 lead.
La Ronge’s Ryley McNeil replied late in the third period, firing a shot from the point through a crowd in front of Bombers starter Zac Robidoux (Winnipeg, MB).
All of the playoff matchups are set for the Wild Card and first round series except for Flin Flon and Estevan. The Nipawin Hawks won both of their weekend games to clinch fourth place and home ice and will play either Flin Flon or Estevan.
With a one point lead of the Bruins, all Flin Flon needs on Tuesday night is one point or a Bruins loss to clinch fifth place. They will take on the Hawks while Estevan will take on the Notre Dame Hounds.
