Smith, Kocur and Switzer combine for eight points and Newton makes 25 saves for his second shutout of the season as the Bombers win 4-0 over the Hounds to extend winning streak to seven games.

The Flin Flon Bombers went into Wilcox, SK last night looking to extend their current winning streak to seven and finally beat the Notre Dame Hounds this season.

It was the top line of Alex Smith (Edmonton, AB), Joel Kocur (Edson, AB) and Brandon Switzer (Brandon, MB) leading the charge offensively as the Bombers (25-13-0-4) shutout the Hounds 4-0 (20-17-2-3).

The trio combined for eight points in the win.

Rookie goalie Brenden Newton made his fifth straight start and turned away 25 Hounds shots for his second shutout of the season and second in three games.  He improved his record to 10-4-0-1 overall with a 2.41 goals against average and a save percentage of 0.927.

Kocur would open the scoring with just 2.4 seconds left in the first pouncing on a loose puck in the slot, lifting it up over a sprawling Alexi Thibaudeau for his 28th of the season from Smith and Switzer.

Flin Flon had two power plays in the first period and controlled most of the play outshooting the Hounds 16-6.

Switzer would increase the lead in the second on the power play one timing a pass from Kocur, backdoor, after a nice tic-tac-toe play between the two and Smith.

With Brandon Lesko (Hafford, SK) in the box for hooking, Greyson Reitmeier (Nakusp, BC) would block a shot in his own end and take the puck in all alone for a shorthanded goal unassisted.

Smith scored another shorthanded goal: 37 seconds later after Switzer poked the puck away from the Hounds defenseman, creating a two on zero, passing over to Smith for the re-direct.

With three points Smith now has 66 points (24g, 42a) on the season and puts him into a tie with Melfort's Travis Mayan for the league lead.

Flin Flon increased their lead for second in the Sherwood Division over the idle Nipawin Hawks to three points and now have their sights set on the Melfort Mustangs and the top spot in the division.  They’re five points back with a game in hand.

The Bombers will have today off before resuming their road trip tomorrow against the Estevan Bruins.

ICE CHIPS:  Flin Flon was 1 for 8 on the power play with the Hounds going 0 for 3.  ---  The two shorthanded goals gives the team 7 on the season, tied for third in the SJHL.  Alex Smith and Brandon Switzer are tied for the team lead with two apiece.  ---  Flin Flon is now 1-3 against the Hounds and improved their record to 9-7 against the Finning Division.
