Flin Flon takes on Nipawin in the first game of four in five nights against tough SJHL opponents.

The Flin Flon Bombers begin arguably their toughest test starting tonight when they start their four game in five night road trip in Nipawin (Game Time: 7:30 PM – Radio: 102.9 CFAR).

Flin Flon (23-13-0-4) and Nipawin (24-14-2-0) are tied for second in the Sherwood Division and for fourth overall in the SJHL playoff race, which means home ice advantage in the quarter finals, which would have these two teams face off in if the season ended today.

It’s no surprise how the Bombers are playing as of late.  The proud owners of the #1 spot in the SJHL rankings the last two weeks, the Bombers are winners of five straight and 12 of their last 13 overall.

The Hawks are coming off a loss, a 6-2 road loss against the Humboldt Broncos, but are coming in winners in 8 of their last 10 games.

Flin Flon holds a 2-1-0-1 record against the Hawks this season, with the last time these two meeting it was a 6-0 victory for the Bombers at the Whitney Forum in early December.

This game with big playoff implications is only the tip of the iceberg on the road trip.

After tonight the Bombers will take on Notre Dame on Wednesday, Estevan on Friday and Weyburn on Saturday, three teams with a combined winning percentage of 0.602 and a combined record of 3-5-0-1 against the Bombers.  Flin Flon has wins only against the Bruins who they have won all three times against them so far this season.

But before they can look ahead, they have to look to their Division rivals in Nipawin.

Nipawin, like Flin Flon, is hot right now, and besides a hiccup in November when they lost five straight, are playing some great hockey.

They have wins in the last month and a half against the likes of Estevan, Melfort and La Ronge, including a 4-2 in Melfort, something that hasn’t happened a lot this season.

Flin Flon is nine points back of Melfort for the lead in the Sherwood Division and for second in the SJHL overall.
