Newton Named SJHL Goalie Of The Week

Rookie goalie Brenden Newton stops 60 of 61 shots this past weeking in a pair of games against the Ice Wolves.

Rookie goalie Brenden Newton (Medicine Hat, AB) has made the most of playing in relief of the injured Zac Robidoux (Winnipeg, MB). 

After replacing Robidoux last weekend at home against the Melfort Mustangs, Newton has made three straight starts for the Bombers and have won them all including a home and home series this past weekend against the La Ronge Ice Wolves, and for his effort, Newton was named the Sasktel SJHL Goaltender of the Week.

On Friday Newton made 28 saves in a 4-1 victory and on Saturday he stopped all 32 shots by the Ice Wolves for a 5-0 win and his first shutout of the season.

On the season, Newton has a 8-4-0-1 record with a 2.59 goals against average a save percentage of 0.923.
