Bombers Sweep Ice Wolves

Flin Flon wins both games on their home and home with La Ronge, winning their fifth straight and 12 of their last 13.

Brenden Newton (Medicine Hat, AB) made back to back starts this past weekend for the Flin Flon Bombers.  The 1997 born rookie made the most of it, making 28 saves on Friday and 32 on Saturday for his first career shutout, helping the Bombers sweep their weekend home and home series against the La Ronge Ice Wolves.

On Friday night four different Bombers hit the score sheet as Flin Flon fired 41 shots on the La Ronge net, beating the Wolves 4-1. 

Brandon Lesko (Hafford, SK), Tyson Empey (Swift Current, SK), Grayson Reitmeier (Naksup, BC) and Joel Kocur (Edson, AB) all scored for the visiting Bombers (23-13-0-4) with La Ronge’s Craig Pejkovic tapping in the lone Ice Wolves (18-18-1-3) goal in the third period.

On Saturday Brandon Switzer (Brandon, MB) lead the way with a pair of goals as Reitmeier, Jason Lavallee (Thetford-Mines, QC) and Kocur also scored, as the Bombers shutout the Ice Wolves 5-0, winning their fifth straight and 12th of their last 13.

The Bombers are now tied with Nipawin with 50 points for second in the Sherwood Division and for fourth in the overall picture race.  They will now travel to Nipawin tomorrow night to break the tie, their first road game in a four game in five night set.

ICE CHIPS:  Flin Flon was 0 for 1 on Friday night and 2 for 5 on Saturday with La Ronge going 0 for 3 on Friday and 0 for 2 on Saturday.  ---  Alex Smith had four points over the weekend gives him 61 points (21g, 40a) on the season moving into second place in the SJHL scoring lead, only seven back of Travis Mayan.  ---  Flin Flon is now nine points back of the first place Mustangs with three games in hand.
