Zac Robidoux made 40 saves for this ninth win of the season as the Bombers edge the visiting Estevan Bruins, 3-2.

Some questioned the acquisition of 1996 born goalie Zac Robidoux (Winnipeg, MB) at the start of the 2015-16 season.  The former RBC Cup champion began his stint with the Bombers following the trade with the Portage Terriers with a 3.71 goals against average and a 0.878 save percentage in September and didn’t record his first win until October 10th.

But since that game against the Kindersley Klippers, the Winnipeg native has answered the call, and it was proof again last night when Robidoux made 40 saves on 42 shots, helping the Flin Flon Bombers (11-11-0-4) get back to .500 with a 3-2 win against the visiting Estevan Bruins (13-10-0-1).

Robidoux was beaten once in the first on 12 shots and again in the third where he had to face 19 shots by the Bruins, including 5 in the first minute.

“He’s been great for us the past month and a bit,” said Head Coach and General Manager Mike Reagan.  “He was great again tonight.”

After trailing 1-0 after the first, Flin Flon scored early, just 20 seconds in to the second period, when Greyson Reitmeier (Nakusp, BC) redirected a Corey Thomas (St. Brieux, SK) shot from the point.

It would stay 1-1 until late in the period when Flin Flon would score two goals in a two minute span, both from Brandon Switzer (Brandon, MB), the first from Alex Smith (Edmonton, AB) and Braden Lacoursiere (Unity, SK), the second from Smith and Joel Kocur (Edson, AB).

Lacoursiere made his return to the line up from an injury, having been out since October 28th.

The Bombers outshot the Bruins in the middle period 12-11.

After there it was back to Robidoux, who solid in the third, only being beaten once when a Lynnden Pastachak shot from the slot re-directed off a Bomber defender.  The win improved Robidoux to 9-6-0-3 with a 2.77 GAA and a 0.920 save percentage.

The Bombers will now shift their focus to the visiting Notre Dame Hounds tonight.  The Hounds are fresh off a 5-4 shootout win against the La Ronge Ice Wolves, snapping the Wolves 7 game winning streak.  Flin Flon is 0-2 against Notre Dame this season (Game Time: 7:30 PM).

ICE CHIPS:  In what was a heated, physical game, both teams only were on the man advantage a total of 6 times.  Flin Flon was 0 for 2 with the Bruins going 0 for 4.  ---  Brandon Switzer scored his 13th and 14th of the season last night which eclipses his totals from last season when he scored 13.  He only needs two more points to tie his 31 from last season.  He’s scored in three straight games and has points in seven straight.  ---  To go along with is great play, Zac Robidoux was invited to Canada West’s training camp for the World Junior A Challenge.  Robidoux was one of eight invited to attend camp which opens in Leduc, AB on December 5th.  The World Junior A Challenge runs December 13 – 19 in the Cobourg & Whitby, Ontario region.  Bomber Head Coach Mike Reagan serves as one of the teams assistant coaches.
