Brenden Newton makes 36 saves and Micheal Knaub would score the shootout winner as the Bombers edge Humboldt 2-1.

Joel Kocur (Edson, AB) scored his ninth of the season on the power play with just 51 seconds left in the game to send it to overtime, and after 12 shooters Michael Knaub (Winkler, MB) would score the eventual winner, pushing the Flin Flon Bombers (4-7-0-3) to a 2-1 victory over the Humboldt Broncos (5-8-2-1) to start a four game in five night trip.

The Broncos would open the scoring just 32 seconds into the game when Humboldt defenseman Kyle Craddock beat starting goalie Brenden Newton (Medicine Hat, AB) blocker side with a low shot from the point that bounced off two players and trickled over the line.

That would all the scoring until Kocur’s on the power play when he would tuck the tying goal.

It would be the goalies that stole the show.  Flin Flon outshot the home side, 44-37, including a 14-2 edge in the third period.  But Newton was solid in the pipes, in particular in the second stopping 20 Bronco shots.

Flin Flon will be in Notre Dame tonight to continue the road swing when they take on their opponents from last year’s first round matchup in the Hounds.
