Flin Flon beats Yorkton in a shootout on Friday, drop a 6-4 decision on Saturday against Melville.

The up and down season for the Flin Flon Bombers continued this past weekend when the team hit the road for a pair of games.

The Bombers (3-6-0-2) after dropping the first four game of the season now find themselves in a up and down scenario.

After beating up on the Battlefords North Stars on October 3rd, the team dropped games against the Norte Dame Hounds and Weyburn Red Wings at the SJHL Showcase, then lost at home against the Kindersley Klippers 5-3.

They would redeem themselves the next night with a 2-1 victory on the strength of a 23 save performance by Zac Robidoux (Winnipeg, MB).

With high hopes of getting back to around the .500 mark, the team would face off against two teams on the road with subpar records in Yorkton and Melville.

With another big performance by their big off season acquisition, Robidoux stopped 36 of 39 shots and stopped all five shooters he faced in the shootout as the Bombers would edge the Terriers (4-8-0-1) 4-3.

The teams would trade first period goals with Yorkton opening the scoring just 1:05 in on the team’s first shot of the game.  Nick Shumlanski (Tisdale, SK) tied things up just 1:43 later.

Melville would regain the lead before the end of the first and would take a two goal lead just 51 seconds into the second shorthanded.

Joel Kocur (Edson, AB) would just the lead to one just shy of 14 minutes into the second before Michael Knaub (Morden, MB) tied up the score with his first of the season.

Brandon Switzer (Brandon, MB) and Alex Smith (Edmonton, AB) picked up assists on Kocur’s goal with Holden Daley (Edmonton, AB) and Joseph Leonidas (Calgary, AB) adding helpers on Knaub’s.

A scoreless third and overtime set up a 10 man shootout when both goalies would go back and forth before Curtis Roach (Saskatoon, SK) would end things, beating Terrier’s starter Jakob Severson.

On Saturday night, after trading two first period goals each, the Melville Millionaires (2-9-0-0) would score one more before the end of the first, two more in the second and another late in the third en route to a 6-4 win, their second of the season.

Kocur would lead all Bombers with two goals, three in total for the weekend road trip.  On the season he has 8 goals.  Tyler Miller (Vermillion, AB) and Leonidas each scoring their firsts of the season.  Leonidas would also pick up an assist in the loss.

Robidoux started his third straight game but was chased after the first after allowing three goals on 12 shots.  Brenden Newton (Medicine Hat, AB) would face 18 shots, stopping 15.

The team will look to rebound on Friday night when they host the Weyburn Red Wings (8-2-1-0) and a return match against the Melville Millionaires on Saturday.
