The Flin Flon Bombers (1-4-0-2) finished up their play at the annual SJHL Showcase in Warman, SK winless. The Bombers were going into the event riding a high of their first win of the season last Saturday night when they defeated the Battlefords North Stars 8-4. But two more close games has the club sitting in last spot in the Sherwood Division.
Here are the recaps with notes from SJHL.ca.
On Monday night the Weyburn Red Wings scored on both of their shootout attempts as they downed the Flin Flon Bombers 3-2 to close out Monday at the SJHL Showcase.
MIke Eskra scored the tying goal midway through the third period on a rifle of a shot that eluded Brenden Newton, who had a stellar game making 38-saves.
Mason Etter and Tyson Empey had the Bomber goals, while Jeremy Lagler had Weyburn's other marker.
The game was delayed for over fifteen minutes early in the second period when a pane of glass was broken in the north end of the arena behind the Weyburn net.
The win improves Weyburn's mark to 5-1-and-1 and they are tied for first in the Viterra Division. Flin Flon gets a single point, but it's not enough to get them out of the Sherwood Division basement.
Action continues Tuesday with four more games in Warman, starting with Humboldt and Kindersley at 10am.
On Tuesday afternoon, two Joel Kocur powerplay goals weren't enough as the Notre Dame Hounds rode three powerplay goals of their own in downing the Flin Flon Bombers 4-3 in Tuesday's third game at the SJHL Showcase in Warman.
Grayson Reitmeier and Conor MacLean traded first period goals, with MacLean's coming on a redirect of Peyton Hogan's point shot.
The Hounds went ahead 3-1 as Rhett Kingston and Ian Williams both connected with the man advantage; but then Kocur went to work scoring to bring the Bombers to within one early in the third and then again at 13:04 to tie it.
But, Ben Duperreault got it back just over a minute later and gave the fans a heavyweight belt pose to boot and that's the goal that stood as the winner.
The day wraps up with a marquee matchup of Weyburn and Nipawin the 3rd and 2nd ranked teams in the SJHL Power Rankings this week.
The Bombers will now host the Kindersley Klippers (4-2-0-0) this weekend for a pair of games when the club welcomes the families of the players in for the team’s Parents Weekend.
