A year removed from a season where the team had battle down the stretch to make the playoffs, the Flin Flon Bombers had 10+ days off before they start their first round when they travel to Notre Dame to take on the Hounds in their best of 7 series.
Last season Head Coach and General Manager Mike Reagan made some sacrifices to the roster, trading away most of their 20 year olds around and on the January 10th Trade Deadline to give this season’s team a chance to win. Although they didn’t finish first overall, they did play some good hockey down the stretch and will have a healthy roster for the first time in about six weeks.
They finished up second in the Sherwood Division and fifth overall after beating the Nipawin Hawks at home on the last night of the regular season. For the better part of a month, they battled it out with Nipawin and Notre Dame to see who would finish fourth-fifth-sixth. They went 7-4 in the month of February to put them in the fifth spot.
The Hounds were a team that started out strong, winning their first eight games of the season before the Bombers edged them in overtime in Notre Dame back in October. They then slipped a bit in the middle of their season moving down to second in the Kramer Division. They almost over took the Kindersley Klippers for first in the division and would have gave them second in the SJHL as they won 11 of their last 13 games to make it interesting.
Here’s how the teams matchup.
