Hudbay Hockey Night in Flin Flon, a pair of victories and a slew of suspensions take centre stage in the week that was.

The Bombers hosted a pair of games this past week, winning both, one during the first ever Hudbay Hockey Night in Flin Flon in the week that was.

Playoff Positions 2.0:  The Bombers, Nipawin Hawks and Notre Dame Hounds are in a dog fight.  All three teams are tied for fourth in the SJHL overall playoff picture with 64 points.  The one good thing is that the Bombers have two games in hand on the Hawks, but have played the same amount of games at the Hounds.  The Bombers and Hawks play each other three times down the stretch, starting this weekend when they play in the home and home series starting in Flin Flon on Friday.

SJHL Player of the Week:  After taking home the IBAS SJHL Defensman of the Month for January, Tyler Bell (Regina, SK) was named the IBAS SJHL Defenseman of the week for period ending February 1st.  Bell was fresh off a month that say the 20 year old defenseman put up 12 points (6g, 6a) in 12 games.  For the week Bell had five points (2g, 3a) in four road games.

Hudbay Hockey Night In Flin Flon = Old Time Hockey:  The Bombers hosted the Viterra Division leading Melville Millionaires on Friday night at the teams’ first Hudbay Hockey Night in Flin Flon.  The town’s major employer payed all the admission to everyone that showed up to the game, and the 1500+ fans that attended were entertained by a great hockey game.  The Bombers won, and they stuck up for each other when a line brawl started in the second period.  The event was a huge success and the organization would like to thank Hudbay for their support.

Injuries/Suspensions:  The Bombers are still without goalie Adam Beukeboom (Upper Body) and Kristian St. Onge (Upper Body).  Head Coach and General Manager Mike Reagan thinks both will be about 2 weeks away from returning.  Also after Friday night’s dust up with the Mills, the Bombers will be with the services of defensemen Brandon Masson (1 game), Tyler Bell (2 Games), and forward Alex Smith (2 games) all for being in a multiple fight situations.  Defenseman Brandon Lacouisiere has also been suspended for 2 games for another incident in the game.  Due to the shortage of defensemen the Bombers will have 1998 born Cory Thomas on Wednesday in La Ronge.  Thomas plays for the Tisdale Trojans of the SMAAAHL where the 6’5, 200 pounder has 10 points (1g, 9a) and in 36 games.

02/04/15 – 4-0 vs Battlefords North Stars:  Starter Simon Hofley (Ottawa, ON) made 31 saves and four different players scored goals as the Bombers down the visiting North Stars 4-0.  Chris Rauckman (Red Deer, AB), Michael Knaub (Morden, MB), Parker Evans-Campbell (High River, AB) and Austin Calladine (Saskatoon, SK) all scored and Dean Allison (Surrey, BC), Tyson Empey (Swift Current, SK), Braden Lacoursiere (Unity, SK), Joel Kocur (Edson, AB) all added helpers with Brett Boehm (Martensville, SK) and Alex Smith (Edmonton, AB) both chipping in with two assists.

02/06/15 – 5-2 vs Melville Millionaires:  As stated above, it was Old Time Hockey when the Bombers entertained the Mills, and 1500+ fans at the first Hudbay Hockey Night in Flin Flon.  The teams combined for 231 penalty minutes, including a line brawl that saw Bell, Calladine, Smith, Knaub and Brandon Masson all square off.  Rauckman (2g, 1a) and Allison (1g, 2a) led the way offensively registering 3 points each.  Smith and Calladine scored the other two goals with Bell, Evans-Campbell, Boehm x2, Brandon Switzer (Brandon, MB) and Brett Kitt (Brandon, MB) all picking up assists.  Hofley made 38 saves for his 17th win of the season and Rauckman’s second of the game was his league leading 35th of the season.
