After two wins at home against the Yorkton Terriers, the Flin Flon Bombers hit the road for four games in five nights, which highlights the Flin Flon Bombers Week In Review.
Playoff Positions: Going into the road trip the Bombers were one point back of the Nipawin Hawks for second in the Sherwood Division and fourth overall in the SJHL with two games in hand. After the week that was, they are still one back of Nipawin for both, but are now tied with Notre Dame for fifth in the league and have the same amount of games played with both.
Injuries: Goalie Adam Beukeboom (Sundre, AB) (Upper Body) and Kristian St. Onge (Saskatoon, SK) (Upper Body) were both on the IR when the road trip ended. There is no timetable for either’s return at this moment.
SJHL Players of the Month: A pair of Bombers received Player of the Month honors with the month of January coming to an end. Roommates Tyler Bell (Regina, SK), IBAS SJHL Defenseman of the Month, and Brett Boehm (Martensville, SK), RBC SJHL Player of the Month, received the awards for their great play for the first month of 2015. Boehm had 19 points (8g, 11a) in 12 games since his return from the NCAA and Bell has stepped his game up with the re-call of defenseman Tanner Lishchynsky to the WHL. He’s coupled his strong defensive play with some offense finishing up with 12 points (6g, 6a) in 12 games.
01/27/15 – 4-5 SO @ Nipawin Hawks: They spotted the home town Hawks a three goal lead but stormed back, scoring four in the second period to take a 4-3 lead into the third. That stood until less than five minutes left when the Hawks would tie the game forcing overtime and a shootout. The Bombers Austin Evans (Whistler, BC) would score on the first shot but the Hawks would score twice to win the game. Tyler Bell (Regina, SK), Braden Lacoursiere (Unity, SK) Brett Boehm (Martensville, SK) and Danys Chartrand (Winnipeg, MB) scored the second period goals for the Bombers with Bell, Chris Rauckman (Red Deer, AB), Dean Allison (Surrey, BC), Parker Evans-Campbell (High River, AB) and Brett Kitt (Brandon, MB) all picking up assists. Simon Hofley (Ottawa, ON) made 28 saves in the losing effort.
01/28/15 – 4-5 OT @ Estevan Bruins: They had leads of 3-0 and 4-1, but the Bruins scored twice in the second and two in the third in a span of 21 seconds before Keegan Allison scored 31 seconds into overtime to give the Bombers their second straight 5-4 extra time loss. Boehm, Bell, Evans and Michael Knaub (Morden, MB) all scored for the Bombers with Brandon Swizter (Brandon, MB) x 2, Joel Kocur (Edson, AB) x2, Curtis Roach (Saskatoon, SK) and Evans-Campbell all picking up helpers. Hofley made his fifth straight start making 25 saves.
01/30/15 – 4-3 @ Weyburn Red Wings: Flin Flon would storm back from a 3-1 Red Wings lead, scoring three times in the middle frame, before Switzer scored his second of the game with less than two minutes left in the third to give the Bombers a 4-3 win. Rauckman and Boehm scored the other two goals with Evans x 2, Bell x2, Roach and Kocur all getting assists. Connor Slipp (Calgary, AB) was solid in the pipes giving Hofley the night off. Slipp stopped 34 of 37 shots fired his way for his second win of the season.
01/31/15 – 4-5 @ Notre Dame Hounds: The Bombers were engaged in their third 5-4 loss on their road trip, this time in regulation time, as they dropped one to the Hounds. It was a personal battle between Boehm and the Hounds Ian Williams, as both snipers scored hat tricks in the game. Austin Calladine (Saskatoon, SK) scored the other goal for the Bombers, as they clawed back from a 4-1 second period Hounds lead. Hofley was chased from the net 1:03 into the second period, having let in 4 goals on 20 shots. Slipp came in for relief and made 16 saves on 17 shots. Alex Smith (Edmonton, AB), Brandon Masson (Oak Lake, MB), Kitt, Rauckman, Switzer and Allison x 2 all added helpers.
