It was a quite week for the Flin Flon Bombers. After returning home after dropping two to the Kindersley Klippers on the road, one in a shootout, the Bombers had a week of practices to get ready for a pair of home games against the defending RBC Cup Champion Yorkton Terriers.
SJHL Power Rankings: After receiving their Honorable Mention in the CJHL’s Top 20 Rankings, they dropped out after their two losses in Kindersley. They also placed in fifth in the SJHL.ca Source Emboridery Power Rankings.
Great Play Despite The Losses: Despite losing two games against the high powered Klippers, Head Coach and General Manager Mike Reagan was really happy with his team’s play. “We played two great road games, and I think that we were the better team in both games,” said Reagan.
Injury Front: Goalie Adam Beukeboom (Sundre, AB) was injured in game one of the two game road trip in Kindersley. The 1994 born goalie was still out of the lineup against the Terriers this past weekend and no time table has been set for his return. 1996 born Connor Slipp (Calgary, AB) dressed as Simon Hofley’s (Ottawa, ON) backup and saw some action against Yorkton on Friday night.
Line Juggling: Reagan also juggled up the lines for both games against the Terriers. The line of Dean Allison (Surrey, BC), Chris Rauckman (Red Deer, AB) and Brett Boehm (Martensville, SK) were the only ones the same when they hit the ice on Friday night. Reagan made the changes in hopes of getting the offense back on track.
01/23/15 – 7-1 vs Yorkton Terriers: Brandon Switzer (Brandon, MB) had two goals and an assist, and Simon Hofley stopped 20 of 21 shots, as the Bombers got back in the win column with a 7-1 win against Yorkton. Slipp entered the game midway through the third period and stopped six shots. The Bombers had leads of 2-1 and 5-1 after the first and second. Tyler Bell (Regina, SK), Parker Evans-Campbell (High River, AB), Joel Kocur (Edson, AB), Brett Kitt (Brandon, MB) and Boehm also scored. Danys Chartrand (Winnipeg, MB) had three assists in the win.
01/24/15 – 8-5 vs Yorkton Terriers: The offensive output continued on Saturday night, as the home side scored eight times with the Bombers winning 8-5. They had a 2-1 lead after the first but surrendered four goals in the second period, leaving the middle frame 5-5. Rauckman and Austin Calladine (Saskatoon, SK) each scored two goals, with Calladine adding an assist. Rauckman’s two goals gives him 31 on the season, leading the league. Curtis Roach (Saskatoon, SK) and Brandon Masson (Oak Bank, MB) each scored their first goals as Bombers. Austin Evans (Whistler, BC) and Kocur rounded out the scoring.
