The January 10th trade deadline came and gone without much fan fare in the SJHL, but the Bombers added a few pieces for the push for the playoffs.

The CJHL trade deadline approached and went and the Flin Flon Bombers pulled the trigger on a couple of deals, adding depth to the roster.

“We had a few irons in the fire early, but a few of them fell through,” said Head Coach and General Manager Mike Reagan.  “We acquired a couple of players that will add depth to our roster which was a goal of ours for the (playoff) run.”

First up the Bombers added 1996 born Brett Kitt (Brandon, MB) from the WHL’s Lethbridge Hurricanes.  Kitt was acquired by the Hurricanes from his hometown Wheat Kings earlier this season where the 6’1 left winger had two assists in 28 games split between the two teams this season, to go along with 65 penalty minutes.  He had 10 points (5g, 5a) and 42 penalty minutes with the Wheat Kings a year ago.

Kitt had an impressive midget AAA career where he finished up with 86 points (43g, 43a) in 81 games with the AAA Wheat Kings.

The team then acquired the CJHL playing rights of 1995 born Conner Veroba (Red Deer, AB) from the Yorkton Terriers in exchange for future considerations.  Veroba was acquired by Yorkton earlier in the day in a deal with the Kindersley Klippers.  Veroba suited up in 26 games with the Klippers this season totaling nine points (1g, 8a) and 32 penalty minutes.  Last season the 6’0, 180 pounder had 15 points (3g, 12a) and 16 penalty minutes in 46 games with Kindersley.

The team also acquired the CJHL playing rights of 1994 born defenseman Cody Pettapiece (Saskatoon, SK) from the Weyburn Red Wings in a deal that saw the two teams swap draft picks.  Pettapiece has an impressive resume, committing to the NCAA’s Alaska-Fairbanks and playing in the Anavet Cup and RBC Cup with the Humboldt Broncos in 2011-12.  He will only be used in an AP roll, filing in incase of injures.

The Bombers then released 1995 born Evan Akkerman (Flin Flon, MB) to make room for the new players.  Akkerman was then signed by the Swan Valley Stampeders of the MJHL.

In a deadline that didn’t have many big deals made, the Bombers added some key pieces to their roster earlier in the month with the return of Brett Boehm (Martensville, SK) from the University of Minnesota-Duluth and the re-assignment of defenseman Curtis Roach (Saskatoon, SK) from the Prince Albert Raiders of the WHL.

Boehm has four points (1g, 3a) in his three games since his return from UMD, fitting in nicely with his new line mates in Chris Rauckman (Red Deer, AB) and Dean Allison (Surrey, BC).

Roach has already shown improvement and more and more confidence in his three game so far.

The Bombers will start their playoff push with their finalized roster this Tuesday night when they play hosts to the La Ronge Ice Wolves.
