Well, it was a tough weekend for the Flin Flon Bombers.
During a week that saw the cut down day come and go and the red hot Bombers stand idle, the club went into their first week of action after the December 1 deadline and saw them drop three straight in regulation time.
Before the three straight losses, the team only had three in regulation time going into the week.
Friday night the first place Kindersley Klippers descended onto the Whitney Forum and despite having a 4-1 lead going into the third period, the Klippers scored five unanswered taking it 6-4.
The next night, one of the SJHL’s last place clubs, the Estevan Bruins, looked to be a funk breaker, but two goals in the second and two more in the third were enough for the Bruins to beat the Bombers 5-2. This was all despite the Bombers outshooting the Bruins 20-5 in the first and 53-31 overall.
Now the team will shift their focus and try to get back on track when they host the Nipawin Hawks tomorrow night (Game Time: 7:30 PM).
“We know we have a good team, and we’re going through a bit of a funk,” said Head Coach and General Manager Mike Reagan. “But every team goes through this. We need to stop the bleeding.”
The team now sits third in the tough Sherwood Division after the Hawks beat the Bruins 5-4 on Sunday night. They are one point behind Nipawin and eight behind the Melfort Mustangs.
“We need to stop the bleeding and believe that the leadership in the dressing room will help up end this sooner rather than later,” added Reagan.
