After attending three NHL Development Camps in the past four seasons, former FLin Flon Bomber Captain Michael Young (Chestermere, AB) has signed his first professional contract with the Providence Bruins of the American Hockey League for the 2014-15 season.
Young finished up his fourth year of NCAA Divison I hockey with the University of Nebraska-Omaha where he finished with 68 points (13g, 55a) over 148 games, including 22 points (3g, 19) in his last season with the Mavericks where he also served as the team’s captain.
The 6’3 defenseman played in three seasons with the Bombers compiling 125 points (36g, 89a) 154 points over 154 games, where his best season statistically happened when he had 20 goals and 29 assists for 49 points in 42 games. Young was also named as the Bomber’s captain in 2009-10.
Young took part in the Philadelphia Flyers, Winnipeg Jets and the San Jose Sharks Development Camps and signed a Professional Tryout Contract with the Milwaukee Admirals of the AHL after his Senior season with UNO finished, playing in one game.
The Bruins are the top tiered farm team for the NHL’s Boston Bruins and play in the Atlantic Division of the AHL. This past season the Bruins finished in 7th spot in the Eastern Conference and was eliminated in the Conference Semi-Finals, 4-3 against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.
