The Flin Flon Bombers return to action tonight for their second game of their four game road trip to finish off the 2013 calendar, this time against the Battlefords North Stars.
Last night the team won a big game against the league’s top team in Humboldt, 2-1 in a shootout. Tonight they take on the third place club in the Kramer Division.
Battlefords are hot as of late, winners in seven of their last 10 games, but are coming off a defeat last night at the hands of the Kindersley Klippers.
The team can score goals, sitting in second overall in the SJHL with 98 for, but they have allowed the third most in the league with 102. That has changed since the acquisition of former Bronco goalie Michael Gudmandson, who has a stellar 1.63 goals against average to go along with a 0.951 save percentage. He took a pair of games late in the month of November against the Bombers including shoutout the team with a 28 save performance.
As stated the team can score and is led by local product Blake Young who has 26 points (12g, 14a) in 33 games and recently committed to the University Of Minnesota Duluth for the 2014-15 season.
Battlefords holds the season series edges, winning both games the two teams have played against each other.
The Bombers made some ground in the tight Sherwood Division last night with the win in Humboldt. The team sits two points back of the idle Nipawin Hawks. They are one up on the third place La Ronge Ice Wolves and three up on the Melfort Mustangs. The Mustangs take on the Meville Millionaires tonight while the Wolves face the Weyburn Red Wings.
After tonight’s matchup Flin Flon will have tomorrow off before finishing the road trip with a pair of games against the Kindersley Klippers.
