The Flin Flon Bombers started their four game road trip last night visiting the Humboldt Broncos, and it was a 31 save performance by Devin Buffalo, coupled with two goals by forward Austin Calladine, one in regulation time, another in a shootout, to put the Bombers over the Broncos 2-1.
After two scoreless periods, it was Humboldt who was finally able to solve a goaltender as Bronco’s forward Brandon Long scored his first goal of the season past Buffalo.
It only took 43 seconds to tie things back up with Calladine’s 8th of the season. Erik Pedersen picked up the lone assist.
Both goalies were solid in net as Flin Flon fired 45 shots on the Broncos goal and starting goalie Ryland Pashovitz, who still hasn’t been beaten in regulation time. Flin Flon is now 8-4-0-1 when outshooting the opposition.
It took five shooters each to end the game, after former Bomber Kyle Oleniuk scored on his team’s first attempt; Calladine potted one to tie up the shootout. Five more shooters, two for Flin Flon, three for Humboldt, it was newly acquired Bombers Sam Williams that broke the tie and gave the Bombers the win.
Next up is the Battlefords North Stars tonight before a pair of games in Kindersley, Friday and Saturday.
