After a weekend that saw the club take three of a possible four points, the Flin Flon Bombers hit the road for four games in five nights to end the 2013 calendar.
Flin Flon lost 1-0 in a shootout on Friday night against the Kindersley Klippers and then beat the Weyburn Red Wings 4-2 on Saturday night to finish up a five game home stand in which they finish 2-2-1, overall the team is 4-5-0-1 in their last 10 and sit in a tie for second place with the La Ronge Ice Wolves, four points back of first place Nipawin.
Goaltender Devin Buffalo continues his stellar season were the 1993 born goalie was just recently named the SJHL’s Goalie of the Week after posting a 1.00 goals against average and a 0.968 save percentage while posting his fourth shutout of the season.
Captain Cam Blair returned to the lineup for the weekend after a five week hiatus where the fourth year forward was sidelined with an injury. He picked up two assists on Saturday night.
Newly acquired forward Dalton Menke made his Bombers debut on the weekend and scored his first goal as a Bomber in Saturday’s game. Also scoring his first in the maroon and white was defenseman Simon Desrosiers, who opened up the scoring on Saturday night.
Tonight the team takes on the 2013 Canalta Cup finalist Humboldt Broncos.
Humboldt sits first in the Kramer Division and have won eight of their last 10 games, including a come from behind overtime victory over the Red Wings on Sunday night.
In what some considered a re-tool season, the Broncos sit in first overall in the league with 45 points (21-9-1-2), but have a 1-2 record against the Bombers.
The last time these two teams met was a two game set in the beginning of November where they split the weekend with Humboldt walking away with a 3-0 win in the second game. FLin Flon won 3-2 the night before and 3-1 in Humboldt one week before that.
The team has this week’s SJHL Rookie of the Week in 1995 born goaltender Ryland Pashovitz and the SJHL’s Defenseman of the Week in 1993 born Logan Sproule.
Pashovitz holds an 11-0-2 record with a 1.20 goals against average and a 0.959 save percentage, both tops in the SJHL. Sproule, who’s in his fourth season with Broncos, sits in first in the SJHL in defenseman points with 21 (8g, 13a).
Upfront the team has two players in the top 15 in league scoring with Jarrett Fontaine (8g, 17a) and David Stumborg (7g, 18a) each having 25 points to lead the team. Overall the team has 12 players with 10 or more points, including former Bomber Kyle Oleniuk, who was recently acquired from Weyburn for Cody Pettapiece.
After tonight the team is in North Battleford to take on the Stars tomorrow night before two games in Kindersley against the Klippers on Friday and Saturday. The team then doesn’t see action until their first home game of 2014 on the 4th against the Notre Dame Hounds.
