Flin Flon shut down Sebastien Beauregard for the second straight game, Devin Buffalo made 38 saves, and newly acquired forward Connor Bucsis scored his first, second and third career SJHL goals for the hat trick, as the Flin Flon Bombers defeated the La Ronge Ice Wolves for the second straight night, 4-1.
Flin Flon (10-8-0-0) fired 50 shots on the La Ronge (10-9-0-0) goal in a game dominated by the Bombers, but the Wolves’ goalie Tyler Fuhr was sharp, making 22 saves alone in the first period.
Bucsis finally solved Fuhr, six minutes into the second, with his first. Tyson Empey and Cole McCaig assisted. Bucsis would score his second with a minute left to go in the period, this time from Erik Pedersen and Brock Hounsell.
“He (Bucsis) was a guy that we’ve wanted for a while,” commented Head Coach and General Manager Mike Reagan, “he a big body with offensive upside. He proved that tonight.”
After the Bombers took their first lead of the game, former Melville Millionaire Michael Sagen tied the score up, just 35 seconds after. But that’s as close as the game would get.
Bucsis would round out the scoring midway through the third, on the powerplay, from Brett Boehm and Sean Whelan.
“It’s been an up and down season so far,” said Reagan after the game. “It feels great to get back to back wins against this team.”
With the win, Flin Flon moved up to second in the tight Sherwood Division, tied with the Ice Wolves. They are only two back of the idle Nipawin Hawks, who have played two more games than Flin Flon.
Next up the team hits the road for two more games, this weekend, when they face the league’s top team in Melville, and the league’s second best team, Yorkton. Games are Saturday and Sunday, both games will be broadcast on CFAR 590.
