Michael Young, who served as Bomber captain in 2009-2010, has been named team captain for the Mavericks.

Former Flin Flon Bomber captain Michael Young, who is starting his senior year with the University of Nebraska-Omaha, has recently been named team captain for the Mavericks for the upcoming season.

Young, (Chestermere, AB) suited up for the Bombers from 2007-2010, serving as the team’s captain in his final season, and finished with 125 points (36g, 89a) in 154 games.  After his final season he committed to the UNO and has played 111 career games so far.  In his three seasons with the Mavericks, Young has 46 points (10g, 36).

“It’s a huge honor to be named captain especially when it’s from your peers,” said Young.  “Knowing that I have respect from the team, to help lead then the best I can.”

Recently Young attended the Winnipeg Jets prospect camp, and has had workouts with the Calgary Flames and attended the Philadelphia Flyers camp two seasons ago.  Although he’s in talks with a few more teams in NHL, he says he’s focused on this season.

“Jet’s camp was a great experience but as of right now I’m focused on this season and leading these boys to something special.”

"We are very proud of Michael and his accomplishments. He has done a great job representing the league and our organization" said Head Coach and General Manager Mike Reagan.
