Devin Buffalo had to be sharp again facing 45 shots, but the outcome was different as the Nipawin Hawks defeated the visiting Flin Flon Bombers 4-1 last night.
Both Flin Flon and Buffalo, who was named the SJHL’s Goaltender of the Week last week, had a five game winning streak going into last night’s action.
The Hawk’s Wheat King and Taylor Balog each had two goals in the win; Balog scored an empty netter with 16 seconds left in the game to seal the victory.
It was the Bomber’s first game in just under a week and the time off was evident as they were outshot 20-7 in the first alone to a 46-32 edge for the Hawks overall.
“You could tell we didn’t have the intensity to match them (Nipawin) tonight,” commented Head Coach and General Manager Mike Reagan. “That’s no excuse because we should be ready all the time, but it was pretty clear tonight.”
Brody Robinson scored the only Bomber goal; his fourth of the season, to make is 2-1 for the Hawks at the time.
Next up for the Bombers is the finale of their fourth straight on road game tonight in Melfort when they face off against the lowly Mustangs before returning to the Whitney Forum this weekend for a pair of games.
